Whilst we await delivery of the New Tyne Crossing we are in a situation with regards to a need to maintain and improve the existing Vehicle Tunnel. We attempt to only carry out these essential works at times of lower traffic flows, however most works require a "Lane Closure" and to facilitate this we use a "Tidal Flow System" (where we "Convoy" lines of traffic first one way and then the other). These works can occur on any day and whilst we strive to commence the work after 23:00 hrs (11.00 pm), due to the length of a specific task sometimes we need to commence at 21:00 hrs (9.00 pm).
