.jpg) This 2 tunnel facility, which opened in 1951, was created as a much needed link for the Industrial Communities along the banks of the river Tyne.
The Tunnels are now “Grade 2 listed” in recognition of their importance within the social history of Tyneside.
Since 1986 Tyne & Wear Passenger Transport Authority have operated, preserved and improved the facility.
