Your views matter to us and, because you have told us that delays at the tunnel frustrate you and that you are concerned about the areas where traffic merges, we are introducing changes.
From 1st March 2008 we are beginning a trial of the following measures, designed to speed up your journey:- - CHANGE WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE AT THE TOLL BOOTHS – change will only be available from the examination lay-bys at the tunnel entrances
- On the southbound A19 approach to the roundabout (before the tolls) the lane priorities will change so that cars and light vans can use the inside lane
- Light vans will no longer need to pull into the examination lay-bys – only vehicles with a Maximum Gross Weight of 3,500kg (HGVs) will be inspected
Work inside the tunnel will generally only take place 4 nights per week We will monitor and review the impact of these changes, which are designed to improve your journey. Your journey time may also be improved by using a pre-paid permit, which brings the cost of your trip down from £1.20 for cars to £1.08. You can obtain a permit through our helpline 0191 262 4451.
