A19 Road Works Start for New Tyne Crossing Construction
Work will begin this week (from Tuesday 3 June 2008) to prepare the A19 northern approach to the Tyne Tunnel for construction of the New Tyne Crossing.

The A19 central reservation on the approach towards the roundabout at the Tyne Tunnel toll booths will be hardened to allow lanes to be realigned. This will require off-peak lane closures on both the northbound and southbound carriageways for a period of approximately three weeks.

The realignment of lanes on the A19 is necessary because land adjacent to the A19 will form part of the construction corridor for the New Tyne Crossing. Realigning southbound lanes will protect passing traffic from construction site activities.

Members of the public wishing to find out more about traffic management measurements around East Howdon during the construction period are invited to attend a drop-in session on Wednesday 4th June 2008, at East Howdon Community Centre, from 8am to 5pm.
